Workshops

PalCom delivers workshops to non-performers including in women's centres and refugee camps. We have taught in Ramallah, in the Korean Centre, Hebron, at the Ibaa Cultural Centre in Dheishah Camp, Bethlehem, and at the women’s centre in Jenin.

We have also held workshops at Nablus Performing Arts and Circus School.

These workshops gave local people an opportunity to share personal stories and explore stand-up skills as a form of personal and cultural expression.

“It is very interesting for me to analyse ourselves. Alaa broke down for us the concept of standup comedy: It’s not clowning and cheap jokes.  It’s about searching in ourselves about deep subjects, but from my daily life. At the same time, it’s about communicating with the audience and entering into the act with them. The workshops are joyful for me, and I don’t feel the time pass. I felt that stand-up creates an image of our life that we can laugh at. And sometimes it’s painful, especially when we open up our memories during the exercises. It’s moving and really helps me. Thank you.”
